Watermelon Tourmaline Watch

Creative flair, technical perfection and gemmological-scientific knowledge were utilized again to put create this unique wrist watch using watermelon tourmaline for a crystal. Even more extrodinary was the fact that this design was created in the early 1970's.

There are seven varieties of tourmaline that occur in various colors; pink, red or rubellite, green tourmaline, blue or indicolite, black or schorl, watermelon and tourmalated quartz.

Watermelon tourmaline is a rare variety that displays three different colors in the same crystal - green (the skin of the watermelon), pink (the sweet fruit) and white (the rind). As in the gem stone ametrine, the colors of the watermelon tourmaline occur 100% naturally. This is a rare occurence in nature.

These are examples of pieces of watermelon tourmaline that could be used in a jewelry design for a ring, a pendant, etc.

Watermelon tourmaline is indigenous to South Africa, Brazil, Mozambique, Madagascar and Sri Lanka.

The unique band was carved in wax, then cast in 18K yellow gold and set with fine quality diamonds. As this watch was created before the onslaught of quartz movements, it utilized a 23 jeweled movement to maintain a high degree of accuracy.

We are capable of reproducing this design or creating a custom design exclusively for you.
